Sister Janie Lee Harris was born in Ben Hill County, Georgia on August 27, 1929, to the late Mr. Alonzo Harris and the late Mrs. Josie Mae Fears.
She attended school in Queensland and at Monitor where she received her childhood education.
Sister Janie began her career in domestic work early in life and was no stranger to hard work. She was an excellent cook and was employed for many years in dietary at Fitzgerald High School and the Fitzgerald Nursing Home before she retired.
At a young age, Sister Janie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and committed her life to Him. She joined Holsey Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church many years ago and became a very active member by serving as a dedicated Stewardess and choir member until her health began to fail.
Sister Janie believed in family and loved her family very much. She demonstrated her motherly love by her many deeds of commitment and sacrifice that she made for her family to ensure and guarantee their future success. She was helpful to others in the community as well. She was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever she was needed.
Sister Janie loved to spend her leisure time cooking, baking sweets, sewing and listening to gospel music.
On September 27, 2011, she passed from this life into eternal rest from her labors to await the sound of ‘…the trump of God and the voice of the archangel…’
Her family will always cherish her memory. She leaves:
one son: Daniel Harris, Sr. (Janet), of Fitzgerald, Georgia;
three children she raised as her own: Thelma Dixon (Albert) of Fitzgerald, Georgia, Roy Shelton (Brenda), Shirley Buford (Jimmy) both of Atlanta, Georgia;
ten grandchildren: Christeria Wilcox, Yolanda Harris, Daniel Harris, Jr., Jana Harris, Jimmy Buford, Jr., Natasha Trapps, Ishmael Buford, Roy Shelton, Jr., Diedra Shelton, and James Clowers;
eight great grandchildren;
one brother: Alonza Harris, Jr., of Jacksonville, Florida;
special cousins: Faye Reese, Darryl Harris, Dr. William Harris, Essie Mae McDuffie and family, Robert Harris, Bobby Wilcox, Larry Buchanan, Freddie Harris, Lawrence Wilcox, Sally Wilcox, Willie Wilcox, Eunice Buchanan, Brenda Wilkins, Lavern Black, Hattie Hodge Christie, and Dewayne Harris;
along with a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
With grateful hearts we offer our sincere thanks to each one who has helped to share in the illness and passing of our loved one. We express our sincere appreciation to everyone for your sympathy, compassion and prayers during this hour of bereavement. May you continue to be blessed.
